Terms and Conditions for Membership of Soft Furnishing Associates

People applying for membership should print this page for future reference.

  1. Before accepting an application for membership, the Soft Furnishing Associates administrator may make checks to ensure that the applicant is a bona fide soft furnishing supplier.

  2. Members must agree in principle to the spirit of participation in the mutual activities and information sharing of the group. Members are NOT REQUIRED to share any specific information with other members, but are encouraged to do so. No member can require another to share information or to take part in any particular joint venture or contract.

  3. Upon joining, a member is provided with their password to the 'Members Only' page. Under no circumstances may members disclose their login password to any other person or organisation.

  4. Members may use an internal email distribution list, where information and advice that is worth distributing to some or all of the group can be shared. Any member found to be abusing this facility (such as emailing other members with unsolicited, non-business or abusive content) may have their membership terminated.

  5. Members may optionally refer prospective customers or contracts to other chosen members, or may set up 'ad hoc' joint ventures. However, members are not REQUIRED to do this. The terms of any such arrangements are totally at the discretion of the members involved, and should not require any involvement by Soft Furnishing Associates management.

  6. Members can advertise (freely, within reason) on the Members Only page to buy and sell workroom and related equipment on the website, or advise each other on potential buyers and sellers of such equipment. Any member wanting any notice to be placed on the Members Only page must communicate with the webmaster by email.

  7. The material to be displayed on the member's directory listing must be supplied by the member, and must not be misleading in any way. The page chosen to place the listing must be the closest to the actual geographic location of the business's main office or outlet. Soft Furnishing Associates reserves the right to require changes if the material is considered inappropriate for the site (for example, containing derogatory statements about other businesses).

  8. The directory page/area chosen must be the closest to the actual geographic location of the business's main office or outlet. Businesses with offices in two or more regions may be listed on each regional page corresponding to the location of any office or place of physical contact, but may only have one full web page on this site.

  9. The listing order within a regional page is alphabetical based on the business name. All member listings are grouped together at the top of the page. New listings are placed at the top. Every month the bottom member listing is moved to the top of the list and the others shuffled down one place - this way everyone gets a chance to be at the top and, averaged over time, no firm is arbitrarily listed higher than any other.

  10. Full webpage listings may optionally include up to about 600 words of text, up to 3 photos, one business logo, and full contact details. The Soft Furnishing Associates webmaster will make all efforts to 'clean up' any grammar or spelling mistakes, but cannot guarantee this will be done comprehensively. The advertiser is ultimately responsible for the readability, quality and accuracy of the information provided on the page, including any errors in typography, spelling or fact.

  11. As part of the page-creation process, each member detail page is optimised by the Soft Furnishing Associates webmaster to index well on major search engines, and is submitted for indexing on Google and MSN.

  12. The Soft Furnishing Associates webmaster will provide every month a summary of visitor statistics for the advertiser's own page, for the page of the region listing that advertiser, and for the whole website. The goal is to help track the effectiveness of the listing. Advertisers may, within reason, request visitor statistics at other times and periods.

  13. From time to time, a member may request any changes as are required to keep their listed details and their web page up to date, such as a new phone number of postal address. Reasonable changes of this nature are made free of charge. Any significant changes to text or photos will be made at market rates for website updates. For significant changes, the Soft Furnishing Associates webmaster will provide estimates of such extra work when changes are requested. All changes are to be communicated to the webmaster by email at david@techwriter.co.nz.

  14. A new member's listing is posted on the directory within 24 hours of their application being approved. An invoice is then sent by Soft Furnishing Associates. For a full-page listing, the new member's own full web page is then posted within 48 hours after the first fee payment is made and after the page content is sent by the member (whichever occurs later). Membership lapses (and the listing removed) if payment is not made within one month of the invoice being sent.

  15. Listings are renewed annually upon delivery of an invoice from Soft Furnishing Associates. If payment is not received within one month of the issuing of the invoice, the listing may be removed (although reminders may be sent first).

  16. SFA may change membership fees from time to time, but it is expected that as membership grows these fees will be reduced if anything, not increased. Price changes are applied at the time of the member's renewal, that is, at the end of each 12 months from when they joined.

  18. Soft Furnishing Associates reserves the right to remove any listing which is found to be inappropriate, misleading, malicious or in breach of copyright laws. In such cases, no fees will be refunded.
