Founded in 1993, In House Interiors is operated by Val
Armstrong from her home studio in the sunny Nelson/Tasman region of New
Zealand.
Val received her Diploma of Soft Furnishings and Certificate of Interior
Design from the College of Fashion and Interiors in Christchurch (now the
College of Design and Arts).
She has also worked as a colour consultant for two Christchurch building
firms, and has developed a strong reputation over the years for
understanding the use of fabrics, textures and colours to develop richly
satisfying yet functional window treatments.
For over a decade, In House Interiors has manufactured
and supplied soft furnishings, curtains and roman and other blinds for New
Zealand homes and offices.
The business has in recent years focused mainly on making roman blinds and
smaller soft furnishing window designs and accessories like cushions, bean
bags and squabs. Val has developed and refined construction techniques to
provide high-quality roman blinds to perfectly fit most settings. Val is
also an agent for supplying timber venetians and sunscreen blinds.
A growing component of the business in the past few years has been providing
tuition in soft furnishing and general business mentoring to other start-up,
home-based soft furnishing businesses, and to experienced sewers wanting to
update their skills.
Under the Valz label, In House Interiors also designs and makes embellished
Tshirts and other specialty clothing and soft furnishings, and is constantly
developing innovative fabric craft projects.
